Founder: The New York Colony was originally a Dutch colony called New Amsterdam, founded by Peter Minuit.

Type of Colony: By 1775, New York was governed as a Royal Colony. A Royal Colony was ruled by officials appointed by the king of Great Britain. It was also administered by a royal governor and council that was appointed by the British crown. They also had a representative assembly that was elected by the people.
Relationship between colonists and native Americans: New York actually had very peaceful relations with the Native Americans. They heavily relied on each other for trades such as fur. Views on slavery: Unfortunately, New York was once the northern state with the largest number of slaves, with more than 1300 adults by 1756.

The first homes in New York were decided by the families wealth and the resources available to them. There were several types of homes in Colonial America, including the classic log cabins and manor houses. The Colonial Houses varied according to the regions in which each of the colonies were located. New York was counted as one of the Middle Colonies. In the Middle Colonies, farming communities were established and farmhouses were built. These farmhouses were created with one or two stories and three or four rooms around a central chimney.

Food, Craft, Clothing
Clothing Men wore linen and wool shirts or overcoats and breeches. Women dressed in linen or wool dresses, petticoats, aprons, hooded cloaks and white caps.
Crafts These included blacksmiths, doctors, weavers, cobblers, and librarians.
Food Colonial meal time and structure are different from what we know today. Breakfast usually consisted of bread and milk. Dinner was pudding, bread, meat, roots, pickles, and salt and cheese. Supper was like breakfast. Each family also needed raisins, currants, flour, eggs, cranberries, and apples. Beer was the beverage and molasses used for brewing and flavoring.
